in Edinburgh, a Ramadan Iftar Dinner organised by the Turkish-Scottish Chamber of Commerce brought together distinguished guests from different institutions and countries.

This special evening, reflecting the spirit of unity, solidarity and sharing that defines the holy month of Ramadan, saw invitations extended to many prominent figures from Scotland’s political and diplomatic community. Scotland’s First Minister John Swinney, Presiding Officer of the Scottish Parliament Alison Johnstone, along with a number of ministers and Members of the Scottish Parliament, were invited. Those unable to attend due to prior commitments conveyed their kind apologies and best wishes for the event.

Speaking on behalf of the City of Edinburgh, Cllr. Robert Aldridge, Lord Provost of the City of Edinburgh, highlighted that Ramadan is an important time that strengthens social solidarity and promotes understanding between different cultures. He emphasised that gatherings such as this play a valuable role in fostering mutual respect and community cohesion within the city.

The evening was further honoured by the presence of Ambassador Hakan Kıvanç, Consul General of the Republic of Türkiye in Edinburgh, who attended together with members of the Consulate. Diplomatic representatives from several other countries were also present at the Iftar dinner.

During the programme, Şahin Vahap Fırat, President of the Turkish-Scottish Chamber of Commerce, underlined that Ramadan is not only a period of religious observance but also a powerful time that brings communities together in solidarity and brotherhood. In his remarks he stated:

"One of the greatest strengths of the citizens of the Republic of Türkiye is our unity and togetherness. Ramadan reminds us of this spirit and strengthens it. Seeing people from different cultures gathered around the same table this evening once again demonstrates the power of friendship and mutual understanding."

The Turkish-Scottish Chamber of Commerce expressed its pride in hosting such an international and meaningful gathering in Edinburgh. The organisation thanked all guests who joined the evening and expressed hope that the spirit of peace and solidarity embodied by Ramadan will continue to strengthen the bonds between communities.
